The music of the great Canadian trumpeter and flugelhorn player Kenny Wheeler, who spent his life in London from his youth and only came to international attention relatively late, has influenced generations of jazz musicians around the world - both playfully and compositionally. Legendary albums such as “Futter by Butterfly”, “The Widow in the window”, “Gnu High” and “Angel Song” have produced sparkling, melancholy treasures that are played and revered around the world today.
Complex harmonies, sophisticated rhythms and melodies whose immediate magic is hard to resist - Wheeler's music is bound to take any true jazz enthusiast on an emotional journey.
Bandleader Peter Protschka has - certainly for the second or third time in his career to date - once again been intensively involved with Wheeler's songbook as a lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik und Medien and Hanover - and has worked on it with his “Kenny Wheeler Combo” with jazz students. Now he is celebrating this special music, which you have to get completely involved with, with his new quartet throughout the German-speaking world.
